At the Ebonyi State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (EBSMEDA), we stand as more than a conventional institution. Our agency fuels the spirit of entrepreneurship in Ebonyi State, diligently fostering, fortifying, and cultivating a dynamic ecosystem for Small and Medium Scale enterprises (SMES).
EBSMEDA's role is expansive. Company History
How EBSMEDA Started
While many blame governments for every challenge, the truth remains that Ebonyi people have been fairly-lucky with the choices of who governs them. Starting from the first military governor, Commander Feghabor, to the immediate past governor Umahi, the state has progressed from one level of growth to another. Commander Feghabor laid the foundation of the first government house, which signified freedom for this then marginalised part of the country. Dr. Egwu was committed to educating the people. Chief Elechi networked and fostered collaboration among the people, and then Engr. Umahi built landmark infrastructures including an airport, which motivates Ebonyians to dare to dream.
Recognizing the untapped potential within Ebonyi men and women, the Ebonyi State government under the incumbent governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru saw the need to establish an Agency to be known as Ebonyi State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (EBSMEDA). Our vision is to turn Ebonyi State into a beacon of entrepreneurial success, where dreams transform into thriving businesses. And where challenges become opportunities for growth. We see a future where the success stories aren't just about individuals, but about the entire state. A future where every Small and Medium Enterprise, whether it's a farm in Afikpo or a tech startup in Abakaliki, has the tools to flourish, the capital to grow, and the network to thrive.

About the Director EBSMEDA
DR. STEPHEN I. ODO
Director, EBSMEDA
Dr. Stephen I. Odo is widely recognized for his unwavering dedication to excellence and his tenacious determination. Born on February 13, 1971, his rigorous academic background in Development Economics and Public Finance, attained from the university of Maiduguri and Ebonyi State University, forms the bedrock of his significant contributions across various public sectors. Acknowledging his profound expertise, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE entrusted Dr. Odo with numerous high-ranking positions within the realms of commerce and business development.
Throughout his dynamic career, Dr. Odo has not only taught Development Economics and Public Finance in higher institutions and workshops but has also amassed multidisciplinary experience and expertise in the SME sector. His notable appointments include the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Capital Development and Monitoring, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Business Development, and he was the pioneering Commissioner for the Ebonyi State Ministry of Business Development- a first in Nigeria. The trust and confidence Dr. Odo has garnered over the years is evidenced by his recent appointment by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as the pioneer Director General of the newly created Ebonyi State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency. In these roles, his leadership and SME sector expertise have catalyzed transformative changes. Dr. Stephen I. Odo embodies the ambition and drive of the vibrant generation of Nigerians who, in spite of all odds, excel in their chosen careers.
